Arlingtones, the Arlington Heights Chapter of SPEBSQA.
Welcome. You like music and you like to sing; otherwise you wouldn’t be here. Please except our most
hearty welcome and with it our sincere hope that you
will return again and that you will decide that you want to become a member of the Arlingtones.
It is rumored that Dave Letterman recently stated
that if he were in Arlington Heights instead of New York City, he would probably join the Arlingtone Barbershop Chorus. The
Top TenReasons for joining theArlingtones were stated to be the following:
The Arlingtones have a good time-
at their Monday night rehearsals. No three hours of standing. The Arlingtones stand when they need to and sit when they
can. A novel approach. The brain learns better when it is not exhausted.
with their music, no musical rut here. Stout Hearted Men, Honey Little Liza, There is Nothing
Like a Dame,….

after rehearsal. A little coke, a beer, some pop corn and, would you believe it a song or two. No one rushes to go home.
The Arlingtones enjoy each others company
with our chapter quartets. They have three chapter quartets that sing throughout the Northwest Suburbs.

and enjoy singing and learning under their director, Roger Turek, who knows how to
get the best performance out of the group with out beating them to death.
because they are actively involved in the community in which they sing. The Walter Payton Run
for Cancer Research, (one of our members actually ran in the race, most of us were content to sing the Star Spangled Banner
at the starting line.), The Chef’s Fest at Arlington Park. The Northewest Sububurban Special Education District ‘s
annual Christmas party, etc.

Roger,
our director, takes us through our paces for the ending of one of our songs.
The
main prupose of our meeting is to sing and sing well. We start out with a thorough warm up to help focus our attention
and wake up the vocal apparatus. This is followed with the songs for the week as outlined in the members
only page. About every other week, during the first part of the rehearsal we split up in to sectionals as we try
to get a unit sound. Midway through the evening, we take a break for coffee and doughnuts and, of course, some
impromptu quartetting. Following the break, some pick up quartets perform for the chorus before the chorus resumes its practice
session. Our session ends at 9:30 with a short business meeting and is followed by an Afterglow.
A pick up quartet sings a Polecat for the group. As
soon as you know the songs, you can select who you would like to sing with you and sing in front of the chapter. This is a
strictly voluntary program
After
the rehearsal is over, we have an "Afterglow" where we relax with a beer or a coke, some popcorn and sometimes a
pizza.
A video clip of a practice Afterglow will be added shortly.
If the truth must be known, the vidographer was having too much fun with 'Lida Rose" to attend to his duties.
There is, of course more singing and quartetting. Some feel that it is the best part of the evening.
This is a very brief overview. We hope it
has answered some of your questions. There are many more aspects to be discussed. We have learning CD's for all our music.
We put on a fall show which is a cabaret style show, we deliver singing Valentine's, we have an annual formal dance, etc.
All this you can see on the previous pages.
Mostly we have fun with a tremendous bunch of guys.
And that is what it is all about.
Send this Email to our membership chairman, Doug McConnell and he will get back to you to anwer any questions
you might have.
