We Are Looking...
The Arlingtones Barbershop Chorus is looking for a skilled musician, male or female, to be our
new director. While the chorus is part of the Barbershop Harmony Society (formerly
know as SPEBSQSA), barbershop experience is not required.
We meet at 7PM each
Monday night at the American Legion in Arlington Heights, and rehearse for about two and one-half hours. (New songs for 2008
include “Breaking Up Is Hard To Do”, “You Raise Me Up”, and “God Bless the USA”.) We put on a fall cabaret-style show and perform in the community when the occasion
arises.
Our
attendance at weekly rehearsals varies between 18 and 22, with 25 on a good night. Our
average age is somewhere between 50 and 60 (some of our members have been singing for decades).
We would like our new director, in addition to helping us bring our repertory songs up to performance caliber, to
teach us warm ups with proper vocal exercises and correct vocal technique. We
want to improve not only as a chorus but also as individuals.
If you or someone you know might be interested in this position, please have him or her call, Geoff
Sjostrom at 773 867 0249 or Mike Johnston at 847 922 1033. They will be happy
to answer any questions you or they might have and to arrange a meeting with our members at one of our rehearsals.
Sincerely,
The Search Committee
